Introduction to Russian Language Proficiency Test

The full name of the Russian Language Test (TORFL) is: Тест по русскому языку как иностранному, abbreviated as TORFL in English. It is Russia's national test of Russian as a foreign language. To obtain Russian citizenship or to continue education, one must pass a certain level of TORFL test. In the Russian and Slavic languages and literature departments in Taiwan, graduation standards also include passing the assessment.

There are six levels of Russian language proficiency, based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):

  1. ТЭУ / A1 (entry level): can cope with some situations in daily life.
  2. ТБУ / А2 (Basic): This level of Russian language knowledge meets the basic requirements for daily communication and is the minimum level of Russian language knowledge required to become a citizen of the Russian Federation.
  3. Level 1 ТРКИ-I / B1 (Intermediate): Basic abilities in life, education, and cultural exchanges are present, and this is also the admission standard for foreigners applying for admission to Russian universities.
  4. Level 2 ТРКИ-II / B2 (upper intermediate): have sufficiently high communication skills to conduct professional communication in the humanities, engineering and natural sciences. In most cases, foreigners need to obtain a Level 2 certificate to graduate from a Russian university or institute and obtain a degree. The Level 2 certificate is also the admission standard for foreigners in some institutes.
  5. Level ТРКИ-III / C1 (Advanced): sufficient for carrying out professional activities in Russian in the fields of linguistics, translation, editing, journalism, diplomacy, etc.
  6. Level ТРКИ-IV / C2 (Mastery): a level of Russian language proficiency comparable to that of a native speaker, a prerequisite for a PhD in Russian linguistics.

The more practical exams are "Level 1 ТРКИ-I" and "Level 2 ТРКИ-II"!

There are five examinations for each level of assessment:
